YOYO IS A YORKSHIRE TERRIER

HE HASN’T A CLUE THAT AN ANGEL IS LISTENING.
AND SHE MAY HEAR, OF ALL THINGS, WORDS.
HUMAN SPEECH!

Lori Hamilton

Let’s start with the present.

I write. Novels. Work to promote them. Gardening is an obsession. Keep sticking things in the ground and most of them grow. No surprise.  I live in Southern Cal. Married. Great husband. Have a Yorkie. Great company for the lonely hours writing and in the garden. I try to write the kind of novels I like to read. Got to have lots of action and characters who do things; But a strong plot that doesn’t fade in the last third of the book is essential. A variety of friends—mostly creative people or academics. If you really want to know more about me, the truth is, I’ve had variety of careers. Here they are in chronological order: Started out as an actress on stage in Chicago. Next LA (Hollywood), TV, Struggled. Decided I could do better behind the camera. Produced, directed and wrote specials and documentaries for ABC and NBC.

Pastime—started to play with designing silk lingerie, of all things. Took a few samples of a pantie to Neiman Marcus in Dallas and the buyer bought twelve dozen saying, “I don’t have a market for a $10 pantie so maybe what I need is an $18 dollar silk pantie.”

Facts: I had no designing or manufacturing experience, and silk fabric had been replaced with synthetics. Silk was available. Chance let me to a small store in Beverly Hills where, after searching, a single bolt was found on a top back shelf. Color: Ivory. Perfect!

Lectured throughout the country and finally did seminars at UCLA Extension. Subject: Power for Women, breaking ground in a whole new territory Eighty per cent of our accounts were gone. Me, too.

Gardening, my favorite hobby, offered possibilities with a move to Ventura County and a house on an acre of land. It’s possible to grow a lot of an acre. Especially herbs and then I discovered something new in the market—heirloom tomatoes in colors—white, green, purple, and yellow. So I introduced them in the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market and a whole new career was launched. That led to doing programs for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Object: fight obesity in children by educating them about the benefits of farm-fresh veggies and fruits. Once that was established, the writing bug hit again. And again. And again. Putting the stories that constantly swim my head on paper. So many stories to tell. So many life experiences and people met to weave them into those stories.

Demon Dog

Meet YoYo-CRIMEFIGHTER

What if the universe’s master plan for speech goes beyond humans? Out of all the dogs on planet Earth, little YoYo, a rescued Yorkshire terrier, has been chosen by the Committee for their investigation. They want to find out whether evolution has made any progress in the ability of other species to speak. It is decided that, of all the species available, Canis familiarus-the domesticated dog-is the most worthy of candidates. After all, even mortal scientists agree that a dog’s language is already close to human speech. Angela, an angel, is sent to Earth to report. YoYo has had a tough life, but something within him draws divine attention. He lost his human, was inherited by people who abused him, and sent back to the breeder. Now he’s in a new home where nothing looks or smells right. And though he tries hard to communicate, his new people aren’t listening. But Angela is. Her job is to report on his activities, which include many adventures and attempts to communicate-and these efforts sometines come close to speech. While YoYo struggles to adjust to his new environment, Angela is having similar challenges adjusting to the strict comportment requirements of heaven itself. She sends reports on his progress as well as his bravery. After he foils a bank robber, YoYo gets a new name: Demon Dog-the crime fighting canine. Even so, the question remains: will he speak?

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. It’s a charming little book, and I would recommend it for dog lovers. What if dogs could talk? What if this is part of the master plan? Angela, the former owner of Yo-Yo now turned angel, returns to earth to follow his progress and report back. It is filled with the pup’s exploits and the question: Will Yo-Yo speak? A lovely little book written by Lori Hamilton who truly loves the doggie depicted in this story.

This book was a gift, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to read it, especially when I saw it fell in the Occult Fiction category, not my cup of tea. But once I started I couldn’t put it down: fun, adorable, funny, well-written, intelligent, informative, a page turner. Thanks, Lori Hamilton! For dog lovers, for light hearted people who like to laugh and read a good story.

The dynamic between Angela and Brandy is particularly well-portrayed, drawing readers into their world with authenticity and charm. One suggestion I have is to consider further exploring the emotional depth of Angela’s journey, particularly her unexpected transition into the afterlife. Delving deeper into her thoughts and feelings during this pivotal moment could enhance the reader’s connection to her character and add another layer of intrigue to the narrative. I’m eagerly anticipating the next installment of Angela and Brandy’s adventure.
